David B. Guerin

Mayor / Village President

Village President David B. Guerin was born in River Grove and grew up on Maple Street with his parents, Bruce and Diane, and two sisters, Jennifer and Amy. He attended River Grove School, East Leyden, and Triton College where he studied hospitality services and business management. He has been licensed by the State of Illinois Department of Public Health as a Certified Food Service Sanitation Manager for over 18 years. As a youth, he participated in Scouts, Little League, Leyden Bears, and other recreation programs. He also served as an altar boy at St. Cyprian Parish. During his schooling years, he worked at the Cock Robin Ice Cream in River Grove and deejayed for various events at the River Grove Moose Lodge.

Businesses

At the age of 20, Dave opened his first business, the Cock Robin Ice Cream located on Lake Street in Melrose Park. With the help of his best friend and business partner Brock Leder, and just $2,000.00, Dave transformed the Melrose Park Cock Robin from a boarded-up building into a thriving ice cream business. As that business grew, Dave and Brock partnered with River Grovers Bob Pierotti and Dave Steger and purchased Buddy's Sports Bar and Pizzeria in Franklin Park, where the live entertainment and food and beverage services brought significant new business to the Grand Avenue corridor. After Buddy’s was sold, in 2006, Dave opened up The Underpass on Grand Avenue, which just celebrated its 15th anniversary. During this time, The Underpass has evolved from a lively nighttime venue to a meeting place, restaurant, and community hub, which has been featured in multiple news articles and videos, including being awarded "Best Cheese Fries" by Brittney Payton of Chicago's Best. As many Grovers know, The Underpass has hosted many successful fundraisers in support of local organizations, including St. Cyprian, Guerin Prep, Unity in Community Foundation, and the River Grove Lions Club.

Clubs

In addition to his business ventures, Dave has been active in the River Grove community for many years. He has been a member of the River Grove Lions Club for over 21 years and served as president for 2 years, membership director, Candy Day chair, and beverage chair for the Steak & Lobster Fest. He has been voted Lion of the Year twice and has received the Melvin Junes Award, President’s Award, and Governor’s Award for Excellence. Dave also has been a member of the River Park Moose for 3 years and the Shriners and Scottish Rite for 5 years.

Public Service

With respect to public service, Dave has served as a trustee on the River Grove Library Board, as the Resident Representative on the Joint Review Board of the Village of River Grove Southwest TIF District, on the Finance and Economic Development Committee, and as a member as well as Chairman of the Zoning Board of Appeals. He currently serves on the PACE Board of Directors (since 2017), as Chair of the North Central Suburban Cook Infrastructure Committee, and on the West Central Executive Committee. Through his private and public sector services, Dave has developed working relationships with our representatives at Leyden Township, Cook County, and the State of Illinois.
