Water Increase FAQ’s
Why is the Village of River Grove raising its water rates? The Village last raised water rates in November 2022. Since then, the cost of purchasing water from the City of Chicago has increased by 13%. Additionally, the cost of construction needed to repair and replace sections of water mains has risen by 9.5%. The Village initially absorbed these increases, but continuing to do so has depleted funds needed for essential water main improvements and the maintenance of our aging infrastructure.
When will the new rates go into effect? The new rates will take effect on November 1, 2025. However, residents will not see the impact until the January 1, 2026 bill, as billing cycles run from the 15th of one month to the 15th of the next.
What are the new water rates? The new residential water rates are: $13.50 per 1,000 gallons (minimum $13.50/month). The commercial rates are: $15.18 per 1,000 gallons and the sewer usage is 15% of the water bill.
