After recently purchasing a new fire engine to better serve and protect our community, the River Grove Fire Department decided to host a contest among local students to come up with a name for the new apparatus. After receiving dozens of entries, the RGFD selected Rhodes School fifth grader Johnny Medina as the winner and his submission of "The Guardian" as the engine's new name.
"Activities like this contest remind our school students that individual participation-no matter what the program-is the best way to keep our Village strong," said Chief LaRiviere.
Johnny received a River Grove Fire Department T-shirt and will receive an official plaque as well as a ride to school one day on the new fire engine. Mayor Guerin was also on hand to congratulate the winning student.
"We are proud of our local school kids and their commitment and support of our local heros, the River Grove Fire department," he said.
Congratulations to everyone who participated!
