At the 18th annual Chicago Polar Plunge, River Grove Police Lieutenant Keith Aller and his friends and fellow officers went for a dip in the frigid waters of Lake Michigan to help raise money for Special Olympics Chicago. With more than 5,000 participants, the event was held at North Avenue Beach and raised over $1.5 million which will go to support more than 7,500 athletes and their families.
"We had a great 5th year participating in this amazing event and look forward to next year," said Aller. "If you wish to donate, you can still help out a Special Olympian."
Aller was part of a team called "Frozen 5-0" that featured thirteen plungers including Adrian Murillo, Savanna Murillo, Sierra Murillo, Virginia Roth, Rudy Krall, Jessica Urbanik, Joe Contorno, Charlie Mellett, Joe Giovenco, Mario Paredes, Joshua Galloza, Marko Paunovic, and Damian Villagomez who served as photographer. As a team, Frozen 5-0 raised $3,820 for the cause.
