National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live. This year's event will have four major goals:
- To heighten crime and drug prevention awareness
- To generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime efforts
- To strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships
- To send a message to criminals letting them know our neighborhoods are organized and ready to fight back
National Night Out enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community. Furthermore, it provides a great opportunity to bring police and neighbors together under positive circumstances. Each year, millions of neighbors take part in National Night Out across thousands of communities from all fifty states, U.S. territories and military bases worldwide on the first Tuesday in August.
Here in River Grove, National Night Out will take place from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, August 7th, 2018. Residents are asked to lock their doors, turn on outside lights and spend the evening outside with their neighbors and police. The Village of River Grove will be hosting a special event at River Front Park and Gazebo (8701 W. Grand Avenue). This event will include a cookout, visits with members of the River Grove Police and Fire Departments, youth activities, games, a face painter and anti-crime rallies. We would like to thank local businesses and sponsors J.J. Peppers, McDonalds, the River Grove Lions Club, the River Grove Fraternal Order of Police and Friends for David B. Guerin for their support.
