Fire Prevention Week starts October 7th

With Fire Prevention Week beginning on October 7th, Mayor David Guerin and the River Grove Fire Department (RGFD) feel that this is a great time to check your smoke alarms. In addition, we would like to remind residents that the River Grove Fire Department is offering any village resident free smoke alarms and installation. Here is the basic information about the program:

  • Only River Grove residents are eligible for this service.
  • Only owner occupied single family residents are eligible.
  • There is no charge for the smoke alarms or the installation. The Village will not sell smoke alarms or batteries to anyone.
  • Smoke alarms must be installed-not just given to the resident-no exceptions.
  • The RGFD will do the installations.
  • The RGFD will only install smoke alarms obtained from our program.
  • The RGFD will supply all materials needed for installation including batteries.
  • The RGFD will offer free battery replacement for existing smoke alarms.
  • All appointments must be made through the Fire Department by calling the Non-Emergency number at (708) 453-1429.
  • Homeowners must be home at the time of installation.

This program is based on the concepts described in the Illinois State Fire Marshal's "Be Alarmed" smoke alarm program. Residents with questions may call the River Grove Fire Department Non-Emergency number at (708) 453-1429 for more information.
